CAP Educational Services

We value the families as unique and respect their individual differences.  We strive to enhance the self-image of each family by recognizing that they are important and have their own gifts and contributions.

                Adult Education

The high drop out rate from school, along with the level of poverty in the counties that CAP serves has long been an issue in the state of Kentucky.  While the current drop out rates have improved, thousands and thousands of adults are illiterate or do not possess a high school diploma.  Our programs exist to provide this basic education, and to do so we try to remove as many barriers to education as possible.

                School On Wheels

One of the biggest problems in poverty-stricken areas of Appalachia is lack of dependable transportation.  Not only is it a barrier to work it also blocks many educational opportunities.  CAP’s answer was School On Wheels - an adult-education program that removes transportation barriers to education by providing teachers that can come to the homes of students.

              Family Literacy

This program targets the families of adolescents and teens who have been referred to Family Court for school-related issues. The program combines a parent/teen discussion group, parenting, child educational activities and adult educational activities, and utilizes the expertise of staff from other CAP programs (Family Life Counseling and Family Life Child Development Center.)

             Child & Family Development Centers

We promote the family as the most important influence in a child's life.  The center strives to create an environment conducive to learning for all participants.  We provide opportunities for the optimal development of children socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically.  We seek to serve the whole family by empowering families in their roles as primary caregivers.  We provide opportunities for adults to enhance/develop skills in education, parenting, life skills, and other personal goals.

                Camps

We promote the growth and education of youth in the Appalachian counties of eastern Kentucky.  CAP's two camps, Camp Andrew Jackson and Camp Shawnee provide overnight and day camps during the summer in dedication to developing the youth of today and preparing them to be men and women of tomorrow.

                Youth & Teen Services

After-school and week-end activities promoting  positive attitudes and behaviors to succeed as adults.  Activities include community projects, travel opportunities, tutoring and leadership development.

Acts 20:35

“I have shown you all things, how that your laboring ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of our Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
